Fostering cats & dogs in Spain

"PLUTO foster families give rescued cats and dogs a chance for a better life"

Your questions about fostering answered

How can I help?

We distinguish between four types of PLUTO foster homes, those that:

  • Raise abandoned or orphaned kittens and puppies until they are ready for adoption
  • Help young cats and dogs get used to the company of people
  • Provide a temporary home to adult animals before adoption
  • Take care of animals that cannot be rehomed because they are too old or have health issues.

How much will fostering cost me?

PLUTO protectora animales will cover all expenses as far as fostering an animal is concerned.

Naturally, we would greatly appreciate it if you could pay for some of the daily expenses like food.

We are a small association, working exclusively with volunteers and have limited financial resources. You can find out more about our situation under “financial information“.

How long do I have to foster the animal?

We do not have a ready-made answer to this question.

Naturally, we are interested to find an adopter as quickly as possible. But, it is also important that it is the right home for the animal.

Therefore, we cannot really say how long we need you to act as foster parent.

Of course, you can always return your foster animal to us, if after a while you find that the task is getting too much for you.

Important:

People who are interested in adopting the cat or dog that you foster, will want to get to know the animal beforehand.

We will inform you when this is the case and ask your for a suitable date and time for the “get to know each other meeting.”

What happens if I have to go away for some time?

We will find a temporary solution if you cannot take care of your animal for a number of days or even a week or two.

We have to point out that any separation from you means stress for the animal, especially for dogs.

What do I have to do to become foster parent?

Firstly fill in our online “fostering application form“.

We will contact you within max. 3 days and discuss further details.

Before placing the  animal with you in foster care, we will ask you sign a fostering contract.
