The origins of PLUTO protectora animales go back to 2007. Three German animal lovers decided that something had to be done for animal welfare in the community Moraira-Teulada.

The first step was to found the animal protection association Pluto Tierschutz Europa e.V. under German law, operating out of Hamburg.

The association´s main objective was to increase animal welfare within Western Europe (especially in Germany and Spain).

PLUTO Spain was for many years only a "subsidiary" of the German animal welfare charity. Only in 2014 did it became an independent entity.

Over the years, more and more foreign residents have became aware of our activities and have joined us as volunteers. At the same time, the general public as well as local authorities have recognized that we are contributing to the common good.

As a consequence, we took a leap of faith in 2014 by:

• Starting an animal welfare association under Spanish law
• Opening a charity shop in Moraira to fund our activities
